2024 Red River Cup (RRC)

The annual homeschool shootout between Texas and Oklahoma, will be held at Oakmont Country Club, located at 1901 Oakmont Drive, Corinth, Texas.

The Red River Cup is a homeschool golf tournament hosted by the Oklahoma City Storm. It has been going yearly in the Fall since 2019. We change up the format a little bit but it always includes a match play event between the Storm and HSAA. This year, each team expects to bring ~23 players. This year, both teams may have the best they've ever had.

Date: Sept 30

  • Arrival Time: Players should arrive by 1pm for a shotgun start at 2pm. Note, due to the 10-15 minutes to walk/ride to starting tees, we will head out to starting holes at 1:45, coaches meeting will be at 1:30. Plan appropriately for player warm up (please be aware there may be limited range spots, please allow others to rotate in at the range).
  • Range and practice areas: will be available.
  • We must finish in about 4.5 hours or 15 minutes per hole. Please be prepared for ready golf and limit your practice swings to 2 max.
  • Departure: please plan to stay until awards are completed.  If you must leave earlier, please let coaches know in advance.

Format: One tournament round of 18, scored into 4 (subject to change) different events as follows

- Event 1: Match play - HSAA (plus DFW Homeschoolers) vs. OKC Storm in a mix of all genders and ages. Coach Joe and Commissioner Dan are taking the lead on the HSAA side and will set bag order based on several factors including rank/scoring differentials, GHIN, age and gender.

- Event 2: 5 player teams, standard high school format, except the 5 can be a mix of gender and age. We currently expect HSAA and OKC storm to have ~ 4 teams each, Red River Rattlers are also planning to bring a full team.

- Event 3: 5 player teams, standard high school format, with standard teams. For example, HSAA Girls make a team, HSAA Red Boys make a team, Red River Rattlers make a team.

- Event 4: medalist in 4 divisions as follows:

1. High school boys (age 15+) ~6800 yards (Gold Tees)
2. High school girls (age 15+) ~5800 yards (White Tees)
3. Middle school boys (age 14 and under, may play up to high school division) ~5800 yards (White Tees) **
4. Middle school girls (age 14 and under, may play up to high school division) ~5000 yards (Red Tees) **

Pace of play will be critical in this tournament. There is a chance that we will not start exactly at 2pm as there is another tournament in the morning. Sunset on Sept 30 is around 7:13, so we may have only about 4.5 hours, which is 15 minutes per hole. Please be familiar Ready Golf. USGA guidelines noted here: https://rules.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/rules-hub/rules-modernization/major-changes/encouraging-prompt-pace-of-play.html

If your group gets too far behind (more than 1 hole), You will likely get a warning and if you cannot catch up or fall further behind, your group may be asked to skip the next hole and take the maximum score for that hole.

the 2024 RRC is open to all ages and skill levels, HSAA and non HSAA golfers are welcome. But, All players are expected to play 18 holes on their own, caddies are not allowed. All Players MUST be able to play 18 holes in 4.5 hours.

A rules sheet will be made available when its ready. We will be playing standard USGA rules with a few local rules to help with pace of play.

** If a middle school player wants to play up, they must provide justification (rank, player resume, etc....) to the tournament director. When playing up, the player will also play from the same tees as the upper division.
